Reading & Dyslexia Help in Halifax

If you’re here, you’ve probably watched it for a while now: the nightly homework battles, the guessing at words, the spelling lists that vanish by Friday, the slow slide in confidence. You may have been told to wait — that some kids just take longer. But your gut says something is wrong, and your gut is usually right.

What’s Actually Going On

When a child struggles with reading, the cause is almost never effort — and it is never about how much they care. It is nearly always a small set of foundational skills that never became automatic: hearing the individual sounds inside words, connecting those sounds to letters, recognizing word parts quickly enough that reading stops being exhausting. Classroom accommodations work around the problem. The problem itself stays until those skills are rebuilt.

How We Fix It

Novaread has been diagnosing and remediating reading difficulties — including dyslexia — in Nova Scotia for over four decades. The approach has three parts:

  • A comprehensive assessment finds the root cause: exactly which skills are breaking down, and by how much, measured against children the same age.
  • One-on-one remediation rebuilds those skills from the bottom up. No groups, no classes — every session is your child and their instructor, working on precisely what the assessment found.
  • The person who assesses your child is the person who plans their program. Nothing is handed off; nothing gets lost in translation.

Progress is re-measured against the same standardized benchmarks we started with, so you see real movement in real numbers — not just impressions.
